Cub 1641 blowing fuse
I recently purchased a 1641 project mower. One of several problems with this mower is that it has occasionally been blowing fuses since the engine was replaced about 3 yrs ago. Replacement engine is Briggs 305447 0142E1. Can someone confirm the proper wiring at the starter and regulator? Right now the starter has the wire from the solenoid and a red wire with a diode going to it. The regulator has 2 sets of yellow wires that go to the stator and 1 red wire going directly into one of 2 red wires in harness, the other red wire goes nowhere. Seems the regulator wire should have a diode. Would appreciate any help that's out there. Thanks...........js

The 1641 rolled out of the Factory with a B&S 303447-0447 Engine in it. Your replacement is a 305447-0142-E1. I am NOT an B&S expert, but I am assuming these engines are similar. From the research that I have been doing, there were many configurations for the "charging circuit". I don't know what your replacement has but have a diagram for the original wiring.
If I understand your question, you are saying that your engine has a V/R with 5 wires. Two sets of Yellow Wires and a Red Wire. Is that correct...???

The B&S 305447-0142-E1 has this Charging System in it, which is more robust than the original.
 It should wire up this way...
