Yep, and that hole is also for the light switch on the smokers.

done a little more work on the 682. put quite a few more hours on it and i must say its running sweet! love that kt17.
biggest annoyance is when it sits, takes forever to get it running. it will fire and run straight away but from what i can work out needle is getting stuck in seat and not letting more gas in. i didnt put a kit in the carb, just carefully removed gaskets and soaked it in carb cleaner. there was a large spring under the float that keeps a certain amount of tension on the float, but i think its doing more harm than good. i need to remove it and see if it fixes the problem. fuel pump works fine and i disconnected the fuel line and put some air pressure in the line toward the carb and i could hear the needle 'break' loose, so im thinking that spring is a no good thing here. its a walbro carb.

heres a pic of the front now after getting a decent upper grill and some lights in it. still need to fix the lower, looks like a truck ran over it a few times and then was put back.......
the lights run all the time the ignition is on, did the 682 originally have an extra position on the ignition switch for lights on and off while running etc? i dont see a light switch anywhere.....

also just realized that the side panels were on in this pic as well, picked them up about a month ago. now i really need to repaint the tractor so its all red......

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
