After finally finding a cub going to start the teardown and resto as I have time . This is my first one to find and bring it back to life. It does have a bad motor with a hole in the block so I'm going to try and find another I don't really want to cross over to the Briggs motor but I have had no luck in finding a m18 in southeast Texas yet .

Bimrancher, if you don't find a M18, look for a Kohler Command. They are a newer and a better motor. That is a good machine you have and you will love it. Good luck and welcome to OCC.

Keep an eye out for other brand tractors with the M18 or Command engines in them , ALOT of them are out there.
I wouldn't give up on the Briggs , i put an 18HP Opposed Briggs out of a low hr Craftsman in a Cub and that engine is beast and has been very reliable. |

I've been reading as much as I can on the forum to learn about the cubs. So far I've got it stripped all the way down to frame and have started sanding it all down for painting.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
