Sam, so far on the 2086 that I have (only have had it since last fall) it has more power than I expected, but so far no problems here. Very well built engine! But the down fall is the plastic cam gear that is known to fail and seems parts are more than say the command engine, but the kawi being liquid cooled it should last a very long time.

I was looking at the same idea to re-power my 1541. The biggest problem I found was getting the exhaust system. I could not find a muffler for it. I probably called 20 dealers. Has anyone with a 2086 come up with a replacement muffler?

As long as you have the flanges, any good exhaust shop would be able to make something for you guys. i guess you dont need the flanges either, as they could be made fairly easy.

Guys
Thanks for the info. Looks like it will get a Briggs or Kohler. I want to keep it simple and as close to factory as I can because I'm going to sell it once it's finished, I want the new owner to be able to get parts should he need them. Sam

I have a 2284 that has some sort of issue, thought it was a bad carb but I've rebuilt it, that didn't fix it so I just put a new one on, still not a happy camper. I also have the 1882 that needs a replacement engine so at the moment I'm leaning towards buying a new CH22 and then put the 2 of them on the bench and figure out what the PO did to screw up the one in the 2284. My best guess at the moment is it's something to do with the electronic spark advance that for whatever reason Cub used on the CH22's that they bought from Kohler. Maybe I can remove it and install the simple mags that they use on the other CH22's won't know till I open it up. Personally I like the Vanguards better but then I'd have an oddball tractor to try to sell. Sam

Sam Mac-what coils did you put in to replace the Spark advance module in your CH22?
I have a 2284 that has never run well and I would like to put in new coils that don't use the Spark advance. I've seen you talk about it in other threads but didn't know which coil to look for. Thanks-
