I asked this question along with some others last fall, but never got an actual answer, so I'll ask again. I have a 782 that has a very sloppy steering column/box on it and have a spare column out of 1650 that appears to be in better overall condition. Will the 1650 coulmn interchange with the 782?
Now that the grass has begun to grow again (and I currently have one house/ yard more than I need), I would rather rebuild and repaint the 1650 column, then do the swap to minimize down time. Thanks!

That is a hard question to answer. IH bought the Ross Steering Columns but specified different shaft lengths for each model series.
When replacing a Steering Column, CC replaces all the different columns to a "universal length" one. SO, you will have to measure the columns of each to see if they are similar and will mount . Functionally, they are all the same.

You could put the 1650 in (it will probably be to short) and use it while you rebuild the the 782 steering box. It's not hard to do and there is a write up on it in the FAQ section. If you can't find it google cub cadet FAQ and you will find a page that has all kinds of how too's that are expained in detail.

You really wouldn't have any down time while rebuilding the one in the 782.
Order your parts, and when you get a day you don't need it, pop it out and rebuild it. It's pretty easy and doesn't take long at all my

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
