In the manual it states .010/.023 and then max as .032. My new rings when stuck in measure .017 and .023. The measurements are for a new bore which mine is not. Is it safe to say that I am good on the rings? The motor is already .030 over and it was burning oil. The only real problem I can find is that the head gasket is blown. I thought it might have been the old rings but they are almost the same when measured.

did you use the piston to insert the rings in the bore?

Yes I was taught that is how you make it square.

@ this point it is what it is.
Since you have the new rings, put them in, and hope it slows up the oil usage. Unless it is using enough oil to foul plugs or breaking your budget on oil purchases, enjoy it. A little smoke never hurt anything. If you are fond of the block, it can be sleeved back to std. but it does cost a bit.$$$$ |
