The engine oil dipstick tube is loose. I tried to check the oil, and the whole thing came up. Is that just a press fit?? Oil pours out now when running.

Yes.....It's a pressed fit. Take it out and clean the area that presses into the block and put some Permatex Form-A-Gasket No. 2 Sealant on it.

Well, only had time for a quick look at the 1450 the other day. Maybe it's supposed to be a press fit, but this one literally will just drop onto the hole. Somebody has bucksheed a bracket that is useless, so this looks to be an old problem. I don't know if it's the wrong tube, or something is missing. Probably won't get back to it for couple weeks.

Well, got the oil dipstick tube anchored and sealed.
Still have major leak apparently from other side of engine. Hope to get at that this weekend. Then tackle the hard start issue. Set timing, carb, new fuel filter may be all it takes. The engine is loose and can be moved around. I think they have bolted cradle solid to frame, at least no sign of ISO mounts. Bouncing back and forth between it and 1210 I bought same day.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
