Nice 1650, I have always liked the look of those rear tires (the tread looks like peanuts). I have those on my 1450. And my 1450 also has the same steering wheel,i think my is a 1979.Dave

I need to check the S/N and see what year it is. I think everything on it is original.
I need to rebuild the carb, when I cleaned the tank and put fresh fuel in it, the carb overflowed on the floor. Float is stuck or the bowl filler valve is stuck. Have strong spark, so that should get it running. Waiting on rebuild kit. I'll put tail lights and a back up light on it, need to get a lift for it, too. Then I need to assemble that 52 inch blade and see how that looks. I also have a set of chains for the turf tires. So, this will be fun. Not so much painting, maybe the hood and side panels and new decals. The rest of the paint is in pretty good shape. I see that the mule drive has "tilted" idler pulleys--this is normal, right, as the deck pulley is off center? Forgot to look at that before I pulled the deck off.

I'm thinking a few more...one with a rear PTO, an 82 series, and one with dual hydraulics. Maybe an "O" just because. I'm gonna need to clean out my building to make room for these!!!!

So I've been digging into this 1650 and discovered something interesting. I was adjusting the steering gear follower stud to take some slop out of the steering and noticed the entire steering gear housing was moving slightly as I turned the steering wheel. Thinking the two bolts securing it to the cross brace were loose, I checked them and they were tight. After a little more fiddling around, I discovered that the cross brace weld to the frame on the left side has partially failed. It's still attached at the top, but the bottom of the cross brace moves relative to the frame as the steering is turned. Will have to tilt the tractor up, clean up the paint and reweld the brace. That means that the frame will need to be repainted on the outside as the weld will certainly scorch the frame paint.
I've decided to pull the engine to replace the iso mounts and do the iso frame mod as well. While I'm at it, I'll check the steering gearbox, replace the seal and check the follower stud for wear. I've got to tighten up the axle channel as well, so I'll replace the pivot pin after I do that. I pull the carb last night and cleaned it. Definitely needs a new fill valve. I'll try to take pictures of the frame repair when I get to it.

Pulled the motor last night, and am looking at the iso mount mod. Don't really want to pull the oil pan to use as an alignment jig for the weld, but looks like that's the best way to do it. Will have to order a gasket. I thought I had one, but don't.
What are your thoughts on the iso mount mod? (adding the cross brace in front of the engine) Critical? Really important? Nice to do? I have the stuff to do it, just wondering if it's worth it. I guess I'm looking for some feedback. Carb is in pieces on the bench. New IH iso mounts on order. Will be looking at the steering gear next. Some shots of the weld repair on the steering gear support bracket. You can see the cracked weld in the first picture, cleaned up in the second and re-welded in the third. Not pretty, but serviceable.

From the pictures it hardly seems to have been used or maybe been garaged most of it's life. My 1650 looks like its been beaten with chains, lol, but runs like a bloody champ. I hope you post more pics as you go along, I'll be looking for them for sure.
