Question Install LT 1042 PTO Clutch

Finally got broken bolt extracted from drive shaft. Now want to install new PTO clutch. PTO clutch came with small instruction sheet, part of which said:

"make sure the anti-rotation device is engaged in clutch". What is the anti-rotation device and how does it engage in the clutch?

"make sure that the field has a little free play and is not bound up". What is the field?

Also, should I lubricate the bearings in this PTO?

Anything else I should be aware of?

Thanks.

Also, what keeps the top part of the clutch from spinning? What holds it?

Usually there is a tab or a rod end that will slide into a slot on the PTO. This tab or rod will be attached to the frame and this is what keeps the upper part of the PTO from rotating. Just find that tab and slide the pto into position and put in the retaining bolt. The plug end usually slides up through a hole to connect to the wiring harness or the harness plug is hanging down for access. Once you are underneath and looking up, most everything will line up one way.

Here is a pic. This may or may not be your PTO style, but they are almost all very similar when it comes to mounting them.

You should not need to lubricate anything.

Use the slot that works best with where the cable goes, or you have two tabs to slide it up onto.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
