Cubcrazy,
The 86 I picked up this spring was in my buddy's barn for roughly 5 years. He lives on a gravel road, so I had to clean off about a half an inch of dirt. Hopefully the aircleaner would be the easier of the 800 only parts to find.
I hope so Josh!

I remember reading on one of the forums Matt G and Paul B talking about a J*** D***e (ouch) that had a K181 AQS like the 800 had. I know the electric PTO and muffler were different, but I seem to remember that the air cleaner would be the same and work on the more superior Cub Cadet. Now CRS could be setting in, don't get too excited, but shoot Matt G a PM or shoot Paul an email and confirm that I'm probably wrong.

You might be right Josh.

Of course I am looking for the same air cleaner for my Cub 800. I have the inner part, just need the outer. I have called or emailed all the sponsers and garden tractor salvage yards within 4 hours of me with no luck. Does anyone know what model # the green machine had a K181 Aqs? Are they the same or close?

You guys are never going to believe this!
I was back at the same place yesterday where I bought this 800 a couple months back looking at an off topic tractor. The guy has junk thrown about everywhere and I walked down beside his garage and was looking through the junk and I found this gem!! When I bought the 800 it had all the hard to find parts except the air cleaner and base. He just had a round one on it. I asked him if he had the correct air cleaner for it and he said he thought the one on it was. I said no so I looked around a little and didn't see it so I left.
I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw it just laying there in the junk pile!
Here are the pics of what I found! I had a good day yesterday!

That is awesome! Glad you found it. I am still looking for a air cleaner for my 800. Watched two different EBay auctions for them in the past few weeks and both auctions they went for
$80 plus shipping. I guess I should have bid because I can't find one or one that fits a JD 208.

Lagerboy,

Cubcrazy,
That is correct, I do have the base. Needs a little attention, but I can fix it. But I am in need of the outer cover. It was MIA when I got the 800.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
