![]() ![]() Two days ago I dropped the rear plate and drained all the old fluid out of my newly acquired 129. I then replaced the IH-395789-R2 filter with Stens compatible replacement filter. I then replaced the gasket and filled it all the way to the hole with Traveller® Universal Tractor Trans/Hydraulic Fluid. Then test drove it and put it up. Now, the problem came today a while after I had begun mowing my yard. I had been mowing for a while (approx 1 hr to 1hr. 15 min), when all of a sudden, no-go. No forward, no reverse. Speed control handle now had full range of motion, forward and reverse, with no resistance and no results, whether the mower is running or off. I checked all linkage all the way back, and everything appears intact, despite the obvious slop/play in the armeture. I checked the hole in the rear plate, and despite having to add a small amount more of fluid till it ran out of the hole, it was almost full. The other day when changing the filter, there was lots of gunk around the filter opening, which may have led to some getting into the filter opening. Could gunk slipping into the system have caused this immediate loss of motion, or did I screw the pooch by not putting Hy-Tran in the pumpkin? After all this, I hit the dump relief valve, let it set a while, went back and tried again, and No Joy. Any suggestions? |

If I did shear a pin, would the driveshaft have an unusual amount of play in it while wiggled by hand, and by chance is it easily visible or easy to locate?

Start the engine and see if your driveshaft is moving. If not, you likely sheared a pin. When the engine turns the driveshaft should turn with it. There is a sheer pin right behind the engine that normally takes a dump, causing the machine to not move. I don't now how many of these pins I busted on my dad's 125 throughout the years.

OR..The drive-shaft could still be moving, and have a sheared rear pin.

Yepper,
Could have sheared either pin. If the couplers are in good shape, you could have little to no slack and the drive shaft spins, but the hydro pump does not. These hydros are bullet proof. Towing them around incorrectly could destroy them and you didn't do that. Totally up to everyone else, but I run hytran in my cubs. Got my fingers crossed for ya that it's a pin. BTW, 129's are great cubs. ![]()

I've always blown out the front pin, but you are right, it could be either. I'm also hoping it's just a pin.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
