Hello all.
My 147 carb is leaking fuel around the float bowl, and I've determined that I need to get this kit http://www.cubcadet.com/webapp/wcs/s...A/040024900003 (#25) to help remedy the situation. My question is this: do I replace ALL the parts with new when I get the kit, or just the gaskets/seals, keeping the pin/float for later, if needed? Thanks!

If you have it apart, you might as well change everything. Those gasket are not really reusable so you might as well do it while you have it apart. It really only take 5 minutes to replace everything.

Why not go ahead and soak the carb in some Chemtool carb cleaner for a day and put all new parts in it. Excellent time to make the carb like brand new again. Also a good time to see if the throttle shaft has movement at the carb body and if so, put a bushing in to tighten it back up and will also seal it.

I got a kit today from a local CC dealer- so far, knock on wood, no leaks. We'll see how it works. Thanks for the replies.

Knocking on wood did not work.
It is leaking again, now it's worse. Before, it was leaking around the gasket where the bowl meets the assembly. Now it's overfilling and leaking out the air filter. ![]() When I worked on it yesterday, I replaced both gaskets, the needle and the float pin. I did not replace the needle seat because I could not get it out (?) Also, how do you get the carb off to work on it? I can get it off the engine, the choke removed, but I can't figure out how to get the throttle off. I have the service manual and I've consulted it but it is very vague. I'm getting annoyed with my garage, hands and me smelling like gas. Thank you.

I think you have a float or needle problem. The leak is because the bowl is overfilling. There is a "c" clip that holds the throttle linkage to the throttle arm on the carb.

To get the needle seat out, you need a 3/8" socket. Preferably a 12 point socket. The cheaper the better. Cheap 12 pt sockets have thin walls and get get a hold of the seat.

Thank you for your help.
I looked at the carb again. I was able to get the linkage off, as well as the seat out. I replaced the seat with a new seat as well as bending the tab a bit on the float. I did check to see if the float actually floats and it does. Hopefully my repairs worked, if not, back to the drawing board.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
