Cold weather starting
How difficult is it to start a CC in the cold weather months? I've never attempted to start one past mowing season as we've always parked it when the grass stopped growing. I want to use my 147 for snow removal this winter, going to park it outside but it'll be under a tarp and an overhang. I use 30 wt in the crankcase for summer work, but plan on putting in 10 30 for the winter.
Thoughts? Thanks

My 149 and 169 are in the garage but it still gets cold in there till you get the wood stove going.
But most of the time i just jump on one and start pushing snow. Both of these crank a little slow ( i run 30 wt. year around) but they always start.

Keep it in perfect tune and with fresh gas to help prevent hard starting. My 125 is sluggish starting in cold weather but fires up.
It's has become easier to start since I got a small space heater ( torepedo ) and run that for half a hour.

keep the battery in good charge. i run 10w30 in the winter and it helps. and i also take a milkhouse heater and prop it up on the left foot rest facing towards the engine and drape a tarp or small blanket over the hood and other side of engine. only takes about fifteen minutes for it to warm up enough to start easily. and that is in about ten degree weather. thats in the garage too. since yours is outside, a breeze blowing could push some of the heat out of the engine compartment so more tarp coverage on both sides fo engine except over the back of the heater should work just fine.

I've never had a problem cold starting. my 1650 will fire up in -40 with only slight hesitation. 128 is the same way. I run 5-30 in the winter, because we rarely see days above -10 or 15. tractors with gear starters work best in the winter, seems the S/G just doesnt have as much oomph
