Quick question for the experts on the rear PTO's. I've got a line on a 104 tractor with a bad engine. It has a rear PTO in it. Can the rear PTO parts be taken out of the 104 rear and be put in my 800's rearend? Or would it be easier to just swap out the rear ends for each other? They both have internal brakes. I'd like to keep the original rear end on the 800 and swap parts, but I don't know if they'll swap over. Figured I'd get everyone's opinion before I try to tackle the project. TIA!

The internals are the same but the linkage that engages the PTO may be different. There was a NOS PTO for a wide frame on mepay.sold for $800 If you go to the Cub Cadet web site and look up rear PTO's on each model you can compare the parts. Hope this helps.

I'm pretty sure the linkages are the same. They come out in the same spot by the tunnel cover

You are right, They are the same. I just looked at mine and compared it to the parts breakdown.

Duke,
Nice looking/restored 800! Already started workin' on the swap. I think I'm just gonna swap out rearends so I don't have to pull the rearends apart. I'll just take off the serial number tag from the rear from the donor. The hardest part is probably gonna be getting the little pin back onto the sliding collar to engage/disengage the PTO. Duke, Where's the new toy heading too?????

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
