This winter I started to lose interest in my Case Ingersoll 446. It has the Onan B43M engine and I had to do some major work on the unit this winter. I guess I just got sick of it and started looking a Cub Cadets and liked what I saw.
I lucked out when I found a month old newspaper with a classified ad in it of 2 Cub Cadets for sale. When I called the Gent, he still had the tractors and happened to live just down the road from me. The tractors were in great shape, I could tell they were loved and always stored inside. It was cold and the tractors had not been kept on a charger so I agreed to come back on a warmer day to hear them run. Yesterday the sun was out and after a month of lurking Craigslist for tractors in my area decided to see the old fellow down the road to see his Cubs again with a pocket full of cash. In his garage he had a 1450 and a 125 and they were both clean as a whistle. The 1450 is a Quietline and I have been doing alot of research about them so I checked the engine mounts and was pleasantly suprised to find them intact and in good shape. We hooked the charger up and when that tractor started I was shocked to hear how quiet it was. There was not the puff of smoke or the usual loud muffler noises I have been accustomed to hearing with other tractors with the same engine. We agreed on a price and I drove the 1450 home. It came with a 42" mower deck. The 125 did not have headlights or a hydro lift so it was not something I was interested in. Snow removal is going to be one of the tasks this 1450 is going to do so now I am in the market for a blower for it. Will a 451 blower go on the 1450 or is it just the QA42A. I am really excited about running this Cub Cadet and appreciate the quality of these older tractors. |

Bushman,
Nice find on the 1450. That thing looks to be in great shape. I've got a couple QL's and they aren't too bad as long as the engine mounts and drive train are in good shape. We need some more pics on your new rig. BTW, you bought the first one you looked at, probably won't be your last, ![]() ![]() ![]()

Congrats on the 1450. A few people think the QL's are nothing but problems and noisy, but if maintained right and kept up, they are just as good as any of the others. The hydro linkage is a bit hard to get adjusted right, but it can be worked with. Looking forward to more pics.

I did check out a lot of other tractors and if I could have worked out a snowthrower setup for a 3185 I would have bought the 3000 series. I am quite at home with a Kohler K series engine and after wrenching on an Onan all winter I swore to myself to update.
Well after checking things out and pricing what would be needed I just could not justify not at least trying the Quietline. This tractor is a fresh one and thats half the battle. I have done my time on restorations and just want to enjoy the use and skip all the rebuilds for a while. That is a plan that I am sure will only hold for a while because I am already looking at 125s thinking about the one sitting in Vics garage. I am sure I will end up with that one too. Make it a dedicated something tractor. I have had quite a few different brands and have to say for now the cubs just seem solid. My first car was a Scout SSII, always liked IH. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
