At one of the Cub Cadet sites sponsors website I found a 3-turn column.....it is on the way to me now....Oh joy.
And, after a very good clean up and re inspection of the old gear, I see that the worm has been chewed up a bit, the bearings are brinelled, and the wheel nut threads on the shaft are pretty much beyond chasing, in spite of the protections I had in place. I can touch up the edges of the worm with a file, and I did turn the cam follower in the lathe just a bit, so with new bearings the old gear will be good to be used again. I think I will also buy the complete tie rod end kit for my 125 too. Then the only slop will be in the steering arms out at the wheels. That may be more than a simple replacement thing. Maybe some welding and boring of new mounting holes. We shall see. For now I am gloating over my most recent success. jim |

Maybe consider replacing the NF front end with a WF. You'll have better spindles and steering and less aggravation.

If I keep getting, and following, these good suggestions, I'll have more $ into this relic than I could ever get back out of it. LOL. But I guess it wasn't supposed to be a return-on-investment toy.
What I really would love to have is a Bobcat,... anyone want to swap even? LOL. 8>) ...gotta go look up a wide frame now....see ya'll later. Jim |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
