Ha - I can't tell where we're at on the camshaft/crankshaft matching thing now.

Matt, I did get a picture, but you can't actually see the crankshaft mark on it, so it's inconclusive evidence. Besides, I had to match them several times because I had to remove and reinstall the bearing plate trying to get the spacing right.

I wonder if one could get one of those little inspection cameras into their block to take a look at this? Maybe go in through the fuel pump hole...

Wouldn't pulling the head and bringing it to TDC and checking the site hole and seeing T stamp mean that the cam and crank are timed correctly?
I was thinking along those lines when I re-checked the valve clearances Duke. When I got the cylinder into position for valve adjustment, I could see the T in the window, although it appeared as though there was some play before and after the T. Of course, I didn't have the head off so I couldn't see exactly where the piston was.

Dave, if you pull the fuel line off the carb do you get good flow from the tank? Maybe jump 12 volts to the coil to to bypass any problems in the ignition circuit like Pulse said. Try another Autilite 216 plug. WTF this thing should run
Yes, good fuel flow. The bowl fills right up as well. The 12V jump is one of my next steps. Another plug? OK, but as a last resort. Lots of other things to check thru first...

Thanks guys!

No, because the flywheel is connected directly to the crank. That has nothing to do with the cam position, or it even being there, for that matter.

There goes that idea. Thanks for the input!

I actually got a little frustrated with the whole idea and decided to let it rest for a little while. Not quitting, just backing off for a bit.

Not to mention that we're done mowing, and not yet snowthrowing...so I don't have any big push to get it rolling.

I think I'll go after it this weekend and see what I come up with. I'll typically be either "all in" or "all out," so this weekend may yield some results (or further frustration.)

Thanks for providing further motivation though guys! That's one of the great side benefits of documenting my project here. I don't feel like it's just me and the Cub!

We actually did get snow yesterday. First time I can remember it snowing this early in a long time. It was just enough to barely stick to the grass, though.

I also need to get the boat winterized this weekend, and get my 870 sighted in for the start of gun deer season on the 15th.

Dave,
Yes deer season starts to take over my priority at this time of year. Take a break.
My son restored a mini Honda three wheeler years ago. He finished it. Pulled the cord to start and it did not fire. He went all through it. He finally found that the new plug was junk! put in a new plug and it fired the first time.
Good luck sighting in the 870! I need to do that for the 7600.
Regards,
Chris

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
