Pretty cool you have serial number one. Any first or last serial number of a model would be neat to have, well any cub is neat to have. As stated before, you have the first number of a series, let alone a 126 which is a low production model. Give the old boy a resto and life of ease :biggrin2.gif:.

No only is that the first 126 off the line, it's the first tractor off the line of that series. that to me is a VERY cool thing. A full restoration is definitey in order. I have never heard of or seen anyone that had the first of any series of cubs. Congradulations.

Thanks guys.
Makes me wonder how they came off the line... did they build x number of one model, than switch to another? Or were there parallel lines, each building one model only? And how were the serial#s assigned?

Anybody here that used to work at the factory (as a young sprout)?

Some more pics below from just after I got it, a little rough around the edges, but seems mostly original.

First in a series and model pluss options it is worth something you need to restore it if you decide not to keep it it should bring some good money

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
