The Tuff Torq KT62AF and KT62AG are specific, manufacturer-configured variants of the Tuff Torq K62 hydrostatic transaxle series.Because both share the baseline K62 architecture, they have identical core power ratings: a 10cc pump and motor displacement, a maximum input speed of 3,000 RPM, and 1-inch (25.4mm) heavy steel axles. The primary differences between the KT62AF and KT62AG focus on internal gear reductions, control setups, and vehicle-specific mounting hardware configured for different tractor brands.Key DifferencesInternal Gear Ratios: Tuff Torq assigns the final two letters of the code (like "AF" vs "AG") to signify a unique internal build combination. The K62 platform utilizes two primary reduction ratios: 26.90:1 (optimized for high torque and larger 23-inch tires) and 18.65:1 (optimized for higher ground speed with smaller 18-inch tires). One variant is geared for higher torque/larger tires, while the other is geared for smaller-tired yard tractors.Control Lever & Linkage Configurations: The mechanical control arms that connect to the tractor's forward/reverse foot pedals or cruise control linkages are clocked differently. Tuff Torq customizes the angle, throw length, and spring-return stiffness of these arms depending on the specific ergonomics of the mower brand it is built for.OEM Part Number Target: These sub-models are mapped to different original equipment manufacturer (OEM) part numbers (such as MTD, Cub Cadet, Simplicity, or John Deere numbers) to ensure direct bolt-in capability for a specific tractor chassis.Core Technical Specifications Shared by BothFeatureSpecificationAxle Diameter1.0 inch (25.4 mm)Pump / Motor Size10 cc / 10 ccMax Input Speed3,000 RPMBrake TypeInternal Wet DiscHousing CaseDie-Cast AluminumFluid CapacityApprox. 2.5 Liters (Recommended: 5W-50 Synthetic)Identifying Your Exact UnitBecause these letters denote specific production builds, swapping an "AF" directly for an "AG" without modifications can result in backward pedal operation, incorrect travel speeds, or mismatched brake linkages. To determine the exact swap compatibility, check the barcode label on your transaxle case. You can verify component cross-compatibility or buy exact-fit replacement kits directly from the Tuff Torq Official Parts Store. Are you planning to replace one of these transaxles with the other, or are you currently sourcing internal repair parts? Tell me your tractor's make and model so I can confirm exact fitment.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
