It was running fine the other day. Then I went out there today, it fired right up, let it warm up, pushed some lite snow & it was acting up but not at first. This is how it was running ...mmmmmm stutter mmmmmm stutter mmmmmmm then it was fine shut it off & started it back up to go across the road to hit the neighbors drive way. I made it to the end of mine, cut right off, no dieing, just off. I checked spark - none. I pushed it back in the garage and pulled a plug. It wasn't fouled, smelled good, and was clean. I checked spark on plug none. I took points cover off and didn't see any spark there ether. I thought it was coil maybe but for sh**s & giggles, I took a piece of sand paper (220) lifted the contacts on points clean them off. It fired right up ????

I would check the wire going to the points first. I had a issue with my 982 where the insulation had a wear spot that started grounding. I remember someone else had the same issue.

Hi i will tell you, check that points cover my long screw had been tight i had to loosen because it was ground out, and now and thenwould misfire, and or skip, i had to move cover for it to get full power back. but if you tighten it to much, you have to take the cover off and bang the cove hole back out, the other is definetly right the points wire underneath is the second, but i guarantee its one of them!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
