Default Do I have to adjust my clutch?

I really have to push down on the brake pedal to disengage the clutch. In fact a lot of the time I still get some grinding of gears. Do I need to adjust something?

I'm having the same issue with my Cadet. I set it to factory, but it likes to grab too much... I think I might need to pull it again and clean it up some more...

Needs adjustment or repair. If you've never repaired any of it Ibet it is in pprettysad shape

Sounds like both of you have a warped/ bent pressure plate. You should probably have the PP faced.

Is there anyplace I can learn more about how to do this? Any chance there might be a nice willing senor tech around NJ that would be open to teaching a (young at heart) lover of these tractors?

I have no idea why I have grown so attached to this +40 year old tractor (maybe because it was built the same year I was born) but it's clear that I have HAHAHAHA

Not really, you have to have it done at a machine shop. It will either need ground, or faced with a lathe.

Garnold and ToddW, if you remove one of the panel extensions (i believe you're both talking about a 108), you can see if the clutch plates are disengaging properly when you depress the brake pedal. With the tractor off and the brake pedal locked on, you can check if the rear clutch plate moves freely. Could just be the rear clutch plate hanging up on the roll pin. Garnold, if you can get your tractor up to CT, i'd help you with your clutch.

So now mine won't even disengage Even if I push the pedal down it does nothing. If I start her up with it in gear it will actually start moving even with the clutch pushed down. TommyK I might actually think about heading up to CT.

Another couple things to check are the throw out bearing and the drive shaft flange. The flange has a small bearing in it that can give you grinding gears, had the same thing happen on my 1050. Ended up replacing everything from the flange back to the throw out bearing. Otherwise what others have said, make sure your pressure plates are faced and good to go.
