I am looking at buying an 1810 that a friend has for sale but it has an issue (He bought it not running so knows no more about it than me). It is hard to start. The carb fills up with gas and floods when trying to start it. He pulled the plug and turned the engine over to blow out the gas and then it would start (after reinstalling the plug

Chip, sounds to me like a carb rebuild is in order. Is the fuel pump working properly? That's the only other thing that comes to mind when getting too much fuel is the problem. Good luck

It could be a sticking float or a hole in the float. I'd rebuild the carb and put a new float in it and set it properly per the manual.

I would personally find a deep abandoned mine shaft to toss that carb into and go find the early adjustable carb off a kt17 engine. If that doesn't fix it, then it's time to replace the fuel pump.

Thanks, I will be buying it this week. I have one big cub project that I haven't had time to work on so I may as well add another one to the list. It's just way to cheap not to buy. Thanks for the help/advice.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
