The muffler developed a leak so I took it all apart and found out the aluminum muffler box support has a crack in it too. Any ideas on fixing this?

You have a TIG welder nearby? I recall seeing a low heat ( propane ) "brazing" type repair for aluminum boats. There is also aluminum epoxy on ebay for about $15 shipped too.

My 1450 muffler cracked there too. I wire wheeled it and mig'd it, it's too dirty for tig. Use a higher heat setting and spot welds...zaap, wait a few sec move over 1/4", zaap again. It's been 1 1/2 years and no issues.
Tig will be the easiest on the muffler box. I would still be worried about recracking, may want to plate it and/or add a muffler brace. I made one for mine 2 weeks ago, but am too embarrassed to show it. Bill |

I would say mig the muffler after drilling small holes at each end of the crack and have someone tig the box or aluminum mig spool gun but TIG is best.

Great job! I agree, no sense in pulling it all apart if your plating fix works.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
