Does anyone know what plating was on the original 72 grill?
Has anyone re-plated an original (72) grill? What was the out-come? |

I've never dealt with one, but from the looks of it, it seems similar to the silver paint that IH used on the outer rims on the big tractors, just a suggestion might have to look deeper though.

Thanks Sam. Sorry for the long delay in knowledging your reply.
I'm pretty sure it's a plating. Either zinc or tin is just a guess at this point. I think I'll remove the grill and have it tested. Dave |

CubYellow-
You need a new avatar...you did NOT ask permission to use that picture of mine. Use a picture of your own tractor, for heaven's sake. Now I guess I can spend an evening putting watermarks in all of the pictures on my website. Thanks for ruining it for everybody. |

Matt, no problem. There was no offense intended. I was not clear whether this came from a forum or elsewhere. So it was clearly a knucklehead move on my part. My sincere apologies.

Didnot know it was plated. Thought it was aluminum enamal IH part # 996-356r2 [12oz. spray can] I had painted mine black, but will be looking for something close to the aluminum enamal paint for mine.

Here's a close-up of the grill. To me it looks like it's plated. The "coating" doesn't scratch very easily?

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
