VR repair-where to find this fuse material?
The right side of this photo shows a gap that melted away causing an open circuit. Does anyone know what this material is and where to buy it? Thanks.

Tim,
Before you try replacing that wire, you should figure out what caused it to melt in the first place. The voltage regulator itself could be at fault, in which case, you take the chance of burning up your wiring harness (or worse) by trying to fix something that should be replaced. |
Have you tried your local generator shop? Personally I don't know but that would probably be one of my first stops.

What caused link in VR to melt?
Neal,
This link melting is the result of switching the B and F wires when you hook up the VR. Go ahead, ask me how I know this, lol. In the meantime, I unwound a wrap from the little post at the top to close the gap and sort of rigged the two pieces together with a small glob of solder. Hopefully that will hold up for a while until I get to the local motor repair as Yosemite suggested. Thanks I'll report what I find in case someone else goes braindead and hooks theirs up wrong. Later. Tim |
do you know how many amps it is? Mopar products all use solder in fusible links you can get them at any parts store but they are usally on those spinning racks as you come in the door. At my local NAPA I belive that the brand name is HELP! They come in a pack of four or five different Amp ratings and are color coded.
