Steel Bearings in lieu of plastic bushings
 

I would like to replace the front wheel plastic bushings on the 2008 LT1045 with steel bearings. Since the plastic bushings come with grease fittings, I would have to drill a hole, tap it for a grease fitting and insert the fitting in the wheel. Has anyone tried that? The plastic bushings wear out too quickly.

JUst curious..... what STEEL bearings are you getting to replace the plastic bushing?

In my mind, I would consider replacing the plastic bushings with bronze or oilite bushings if it is at all possible. One place to look would be McMaster-Carr.

Sir, your reply on the oilite bushings will be seriously looked into. The front wheels have an outer and inner plastic bushing and the wheel has a grease zerk. Will the oilite bushings be OK without the zerks?

Probably.....until they wear out!~

Oilite is an oil impregnated sintered Bronze material. It is designed to be self lubricating for a long time. It doesn't last forever, but it does last pretty darn well. I would expect it to last many years in that application, perhaps even a few decades if you don't drive through absorbent & abrasive environments. Heavy dust contamination can draw the lubricant out of it.
