1512 Misfire
 

I'm on the trail of a 1512 for sale semi locally. It's a decent price for the condition, I have not seen it in person yet but from what the seller states, it needs a new electric fuel pump as it has a miss fire at mowing RPM. Does that seem feasible? I really don't want to make the drive and it be a expensive fix, and he is also firm on price.

I would expect at a minimum, for my own peace of mind, to at least replace the fuel pump, all the lines and filters plus cleaning the tank.

What size are the fuel lines by chance? If I decide to purchase this machine I would like to have the necessary lines in my hand on my return trip home.

I would probably not buy it based what you have said so far. A misfire in a diesel can be very expensive. The fuel pump alone does not usually cause a misfire. They either work or do not work. The injector pump could be bad. Those are 1200-1500.

How many hours on the engine?

The rubber fuel lines are 1/4" ID on all of mine.

I have owned my 1572 since 1998. At almost 1700 hours, I have never had a misfire issue. It was starving for fuel when I first got it. Both filters we stopped up. New filters fixed that. It was obvious it was not a misfire event. The engine would fall on its face if the throttle was increased.

I had a fuel pump go out several years ago and the engine died. You can hear the pump pulsing when it is working and it was not running so it was obvious the pump was bad.

I don't actually know if the owner actually knows what a misfire is. I own several different diesels so a true misfire is scary. I may try to get some better information from the current owner and have him truly describe what happens while at full throttle, if memory serves it have around 650ish hours.

Yep makes sense. He may not be explaining it the same as us.

I bought the machine, it runs well actually. The problem I'm having is it will run a few minutes then die, it starts right back like nothing happened and the fuel filter on the side of the machine is only half full.

Same issue I had with my 1572 what I got it in 1998. I changed both fuel filters and that fixed my fuel delivery issues.

Can you hear the pump running when it shuts off?
