Transmission filter change question

I just picked up this HDS 2155 a few weeks ago with about 630 hours. The last known trans filter change is unknown, but the fluid on the stick is very clean. Can I change the filter without a complete draining? If so, about how much new fluid do I need to have on-hand to refill?

Others will be along that are more knowledgeable than me but in my service manual it says 6qts of the 737-3120 (Cub Cadet Drive System Oil). The nearest Cub Cadet dealer to me is asking $14.50 per quart for it. Hope that helps.

Would you change just the filter on your car?

It always "looks" clean. Open it up, and drain the fluid, you'll see it ain't clean. IF you're changing the filter, for gosh sake, change the fluid as well...:beerchug:

Thanks for the sanity check. It just seemed weird the way it was stated. To change the filter without mention of the fluid. I guess I was just over-thinking what should have been obvious.
