K301AS engine rebuild
Hi guys:
I'm getting ready to start rebuilding a k301as out of a 123. Other than removing balance gear and governor gear, anything else I should replace Thanks Thad |
You're not removing the governor gear are you?
|
I think he means he’s replacing the governor gear? Maybe with a steel one?

He says"gear" not "gears" most that have balance gears have 2 of them I haven't seen this but have read where some have 3 balance gears... (Mostly 16hp I think)
You certainly want to pull both balance gears and leave them both out. Maybe he doesn't know that the governor gear is " across the cam" from the balance gears? |

You should replace: Piston (and rings) Connecting rod Valves Bore it Grind the crank Grind the valve seats Bead blast and plane the head And obviously, all gaskets and seals Replace as needed: Valve guides Check the camshaft Rework the lifters and adjuster bolts as necessary Governor gear Governor control rod bushing Check the arm on the governor control rod. Weld it if needed. Remove the balance gears and chuck them in the scrap. |
yes i mean the governor gear will get replaces with a new one and balance gears will be removed

Great. I wasn't sure what you meant by the way you posted your comments.

This will be very helpful for me in the future, thanks again!
It's good to see what really needs to be done. Kevin |
