Center mower deck spindle loose
Looking for advice on tightening up the center spindle on my triangular 48" mower... I know it's more than just the pulley as the pulley is loose, and the blade is loose underneath as well.
I've never worked on a spindle so this is unfamiliar territory (although I understand how to tighten bearings on axles, etc) - advice? Tips? Thanks |
The bearings, spindle or both are probably badly worn. Take it apart and clean the assembly. The problem will be obvious. You do need the proper spacers in order to maintain the correct bearing preload when you tighten the nut.

Is the pulley making a mark on the cast piece?

Time to rebuild it. :beerchug:

How involved is this? Not that I am questioning my mechanical ability; just trying to see what I'm getting into before I start work on it. What typically wears out on these? The bearings?
Thanks |
Bearins. Cup, cone and seals. 2 of each.

Washers, spacers, also, and believe it or not the bottom of the pulley will wear.
