How do you dispose of used Hy-Tran?

Hi all,

I was changing the Hy-tran fluid today in my 682, and as I was pouring the used fluid from the pan to a 5 gallon jug, I thought to myself "how am I gonna get rid of this stuff". I don't know why it never crossed my mind over the years with all the Hy-Tran changes I have done. I have close to 15 gallons of it now.

I have a neighbor up the road who burns my used motor oil in his shop furnace, but he told me he will only burn motor oil...no hydraulic fluid. I called a couple of auto parts stores locally that accept used motor oil, and they both said they don't accept hydraulic fluid.

Any ideas of what type of place to pursue next. I have a reputable JD dealer less than a 1/4 mile from my house, and they said they only dispose of fluid that they change in there shop..no drop offs. I would hate to have to pay to dispose of this stuff, as it already cost a fortune when its new..ugh

Thanks,

Jeff (teet)

Really? It's less than 40 bucks for 2.5 gallons around here.

But I too have the same issue, haven't found a place to take the used stuff.

Its $8 a quart at my Cub dealer...He doesn't sell it in bulk unfortunately.

Guess i'm lucky to have a Case dealer 2 miles from my house :biggrin2.gif:

EDIT: Jeff, I went to the Case dealer locator and you have two within 10-15 miles of you. You might want to give them a call.

Thanks Shawn,

I picked up 5 gallons a couple years ago from a Case dealer not too far away, but they recently went out of business. I'll definitely check around again, thanks for the heads up!:biggrin2.gif:

I don't have any idea why someone who burns waste oil wouldn't want hydraulic fluid......It is pretty close to automatic transmission fluid...Might want to try asking the local tranny rebuilder where they get rid of their fluid.

I take all my used oil (engine oil, trans fluid or hydraulic) to advance auto parts. You dump it in the tank yourself.

I have worked in shops where we burned used oil. Every type of oil burns differently. When you change from engine oil to trans oil you have to readjust the stove. I have NEVER been impressed with any used oil stove.

I plan to add mine to my roundup sprayer and use it on weeds. Also some truck lines have a filter system where the oil is filtered and added back to the fuel and is burned with the Diesel fuel.

I know but it kills the weeds.

I am fortunate. My local county Recycling Center takes any oil for FREE.
