18hp B&S Vanguard in 782
 

Looking for any information about wiring a 18hp B&S vanguard into a 782.

I have a 782 that did not have an engine and found one that already had been in a 682. The only information the guy I purchased the engine from said all I needed was a 6 prong ignition switch and make the drive shaft about 1 inch longer. The motor mounted right in and I have a switch ordered but not sure how to wire the new switch to the vanguard or what changes I need to make to the current wiring harness.

I don't think this was a kit when he purchased. I have a red wire coming off of the regulator, another red wire that goes into the shroud, and a white wire that is screwed to white plastic on shroud.

I can help you BUT....I need the B&S Model and Type number before I dive into this. Further, I may take a couple of days before I can draw up a diagram.

I've done this a few times (wiring a vanguard into another tractor) but never wrote it down. Basically, the red wire from the regulator is the regulated DC charge, the white wire screwed to the plastic is the kill switch, and the other red wire is the fuel solenoid. You're missing the solenoid wire to engage the solenoid to start it, and the lights.

I don't remember off the top of my head which ones go where on the ignition switch, but it isn't too hard to figure out with the right documentation/pictures.
