Hydrostatic fan question?

Good gosh, not too much left of the fan.

I imagine this has been there for awhile? It has 1 fin left. Going to replace it but am wondering how important is this fan? There is a reason behind it but I don't have a clue if this fan is that effective or ?

Maybe some one can chime in about the effect of this fan who knows something about it.

:Thanks: for any imput.

Nik

It was put there for a reason...to cool the hydrostat transmission. It needs to be replaced.

DYT is correct...it is there to aid in cooling the hydro pump and tranny. I would definitely replace it as soon as possible. One of our sponsors above, or your local cub dealer should have one for you. It also looks like your about to lose a bolt from the rag joint...looks pretty loose to me.

Yes I had intended to replace the moment I saw it. It seems that the gentleman that used it previous had run it that way for a long time?

After I get the rear fender off & I power wash it, I'll have a better idea as what i'm going to replace or ?. One thing is that when I removed the back plate for the tranny & popped the plate, I saw that the fluid almost looked new.

Nik,

It may not look like new oil in the photo, but I would say that it was replaced last Fall?

I can stand behind mine and feel the air from the fan, so it does some good.

IT's also fun to get your mom to yell at you, because you left the cub running, while she's over a pile of dirt, The dust that the little fan makes is INCREDIBLE.

Your cub Looks like she's been loved, and used everyday

Thanks

If you haven't already, pull off the fenders and degrease the pump...the fan won't do much good if the cooling fins are not exposed to airflow.

I need to replace my fan also. Is there a link showing how to get the drive shaft off?
