I just picked up this CUB CADET 109 and the engine runs great, but I was told that it keeps breaking the drive shaft pin (engine end) to the hydrostatic unit. The relief buttons function fine and I can turn the shaft. What I do see is that the rubber ring connected to the shaft at the hydo end is distorted out of shape and wavy. Could that be the problem ?

its probably breaking the pin because the slot is worn out in the driver coming off the engine.

if someone has used a 1/4" bolt instead of the correct pin in the driveshaft in the past, or it currently has a bolt instead of a pin, it will egg the driveshaft pin hole out and they will break about every 3-4 hours of use

Here's a drivehub I made. Notice the sides of the slot are smooth.

I agree with everyone else. Sure sounds like the hub is worn.
