What an awesome site here we have!!!!
Tonight, I decided to tackle the trouble spots on the newest arrival (the 102). I started by messing with the clutch. It seems the small clutch U bracket on the tower that holds the return bracket was severely trashed. So, I located another one as well as new pin and ordered it.Then, on to the really bad steering. It wouldn't turn left at all without severe pulling on the wheel. When you turned to the right, the shaft came outward. I decided to rip the old column out and check out the trouble. Thankfully, the online manuals were on here and I knew what to look for. As I took the column apart,I noticed several things wrong right off the bat. The one main bolt jam nut was missing, the follower was missing the lock nut,the zerk was removed and yellow old grease was still inside. They used a terrible looking grease inside as well. I immediately seen the bearings were all apart and the bottom balls were in the cap on the end. This was the reason the shaft came up when turning. We thoroughly cleaned it up,and that's when we realized the end cap was also missing the cotter key. We installed a new cotter. Now it functions very well and now works properly. I am getting a follower jam nut tomorrow and will be reinstalling the column this weekend. Thanks to the admins for having the technical sections here. Now... I need to get that clutch and brakes adjusted..
