782 won't move
3 Attachment(s)
I just got this 782 yesterday. It's been stored inside for ? years and looks it will clean up nice. I got the engine running and it sounds good with no smoke. The problem is, it won't move. The lift is working fine so I assume the pump is ok. When I try to go forward or reverse, It will lug the engine just a little but no movement. I'm afraid to hear what the problem might be, but if you guy have any ideas I would appreciate it. This is an early one built by International Harvester.

If it wasn't for you saying that the lift works, I was going to say it sounds like one of the roll pins for the driveshaft is sheered. Maybe it's possible there's still a sheered pin but the pump is spinning just enough to give you lift but not forward/reverse motion? hope you figure it out. I just brought home an IH built 782 that needs some serious TLC hope to get it looking as good as that one.

Hope this doesn't sound stupid, but did you check the hydro oil level? Try changing it and the filter? That's where I'd start.

I checked the spirol pins just turning it by hand. They seem to be tight. Another thing worth mentioning I guess. When I loaded and unloaded it off the trailer, it was free wheeling and easily pushed into the garage by hand. Now that I have had it running, I can't move it by hand. There's no lever to relieve the pressure on it.

Yes, I did check the fluid. It was a quart and a half low. I filled it, but it didn't make any difference.

I would take Relief (or check) valves out. Soak them overnight in something like PB Blaster. Before re-installing them, make sure the Plunger inside the valves travels "freely" http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w...e.png~original http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w...B.jpg~original |
