149 hydro shaft issue

After many years of service the front bolt on the hydro shaft broke on my 149. The connection is up next to the motor. I tried to reasearch what was there but could not find any specifics for this bolt. I put a 1/4 20 bolt thru the shaft and the piece on the motor that seemed to work fine. after two weeks of running the bolt broke again. the hrdro was just rebuilt over the winter and turns freely. I thought I may have had an issue there but I do not. Can any one tell me what should be used at this connection on this tractor? I am sure that I just need to install the correct bolt or pin?

The proper and correct part is a "spirol pin" NOT a bolt. It is Part Number IH-19837-R2 . IF.......you have a well equipped Hardware store, you can use a 1/4" x 1.5" Spirol Pin.

Cub Cadet IH-19837-R2 Pin, 1/4 X 1-1/2 Dowel at the engine end and the spirol pin at the pump end. If the hole in the drive shaft is worn and the drive flange #2 in this pic is worn you can plan on replacing them.

Just so you know...............
The Spirol Pin (a name brand) is shown at top.
Also known as a coiled spring pin.
Lower left is a dowel (solid steel pin).
Lower right is a spring pin (but not a Spirol/coiled spring pin).
The last pic shows HD, Med. and light duty Spirol/coiled spring pins.
Cub Cadets used the medium one with 2-1/4 revolutions of metal.

Could/should? this be in faq's? As so many times we see questions on "pins"
Just thinking out loud I guess.
It sure is a plum purdy/descriptive post!

If the hub slot is worn or damaged, as Sam noted, you'll have to weld repair or replace it. On my 149, I switched to a QL type solution. Either way, parts are available...

If you want the same style as the factory designed, I make replacement parts.
