82 series metal on an 1864 (Metal-Clops)
13 Attachment(s)
Goal was to put 82 series sheet metal on a Cyclops while maintaining the tilt wheel, indicator lights, etc. The Cyclops dash had to be narrowed to fit the 82 series hood. This was accomplished by cutting a 3/8 inch wedge from each side the upper part of the dash. Attachment 62104 Attachment 62105 Attachment 62106 The side panels were split and spread to meet the lower edge of the metal hood. Attachment 62107 Each side of the dash needed trimmed to allow the side panels to fit properly. Attachment 62108 Attachment 62109 Attachment 62110 Right side of the tower was drilled and tapped for a 1/4-20 bolt to secure the panel. Attachment 62111 Left side required a new bracket with a 1/4-20 stud and the panel trimmed to clear the hydraulic lift lines. Attachment 62112 Additional metal was removed from each side panel to allow adequate cooling air for the engine. Attachment 62114 Perforated metal from McMaster – Carr was used to fill in the gap on each side panel. Attachment 62113 Perforated metal was attached by spot welding on the right side. Works fine if you plan to repaint anyway. Attachment 62115 On the left side J B Weld was used. Works well, doesn't burn the paint. Took a lot of time as each segmented needed clamped and time to cure. Attachment 62116 If I was to do it again I would use perforated aluminum. Cut out the wedge shaped split and additional cooling opening in one piece and J B Weld them in. I hope this is useful to anyone considering a similar project. I may due a re-paint one of these days, or put the plastic back on . |
Slick job.

Looks better than what I did. I cut the rolled edge off the back of the hood and the lip off the cyclops dash. I didn't even bother to make the side panels look like they were supposed to be on it. I just needed the tractor to look better than an open front end. (the plastic was in really bad shape) I like the split vent down the side of the panel.

You did a great job! Looks great!

Thanks guys. I had some surgery in December, so had time to sit around and try to think of a fairly simple way of doing this and retain the Cyclops goodies.
This made a good time consuming (light duty) Winter project as it took a lot of trial and error making templates etc. Now if Winter would just go away...;-) |

Metalclops finally got a Foot control.
Attachment 65969 Very similar to the one on my 1862. http://www.onlycubcadets.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=37406 Now if I could get off my butt and get some paint work done..... ?? Ike |
That looks great. I have a 1860 that needs that setup.

Finally had a few days with low humidity, so I managed to squirt some paint on the modified 1710 sheet metal on the 1864 (Metalclops).
Attachment 67749 Attachment 67750 Attachment 67751 I used Valspar (5339-15-6PK) International Harvester White Tractor and Implement Spray Paint - 12 oz., (Pack of 6) From Amazon. Got 6 cans of White and one of Yellow for $42. I got the yellow because it got me above $35 for free shipping so basically it was free. |
Looks great! Why didn't you paint the filled piece of the side panels? I don't think you would be able to tell that they were there if you had.
