149 Severe Hydro whine
 

149 whines something terrible, but stops when I raise or lower the lift. every once in blue moon it will stop on its own for a second or so with out me touching it. Does something need to be bleed?

Sounds like your Hydro Linkage needs to be adjusted correctly and/or repaired.

Have you also checked the fluid and filter condition? Does the whine stop when you put it in forward or reverse?

Best way to stop a hydro from whining is to sell it and get a gear drive.:biggrin2: as Sam pointed out it might be time for a new filter and fluid, start there and see if that solves the problem.

Filter and pump good. Pretty sure linkage is properly adjusted as well. I think it is just associated with the lift. I touch the lift lever and the whine stops. No one has ever dealt with this?

Roughly when was the last time the filter and fluid were changed? What brand of filter and what brand of fluid?

I don't know the answer to your question hopefully someone does but I have asked enough hydro questions on here to know that everyone thinks fluid and filter is the answer to every hydro question... I don't mean any offense to anyone. Sometime it seems like people want to help but don't really know what to tell you so they suggest a fluid and filter change.

Changed couple years ago with just a few hours on it to date. it was dealer stuff. no creep or surges on this one. I thinks its in good shape. I re did trunion and did the shim washer fix on this one. I understand the hydros whine, especially under load and especially the ones with hydro lift, I believe they are under higher charge pump pressures whine even more. this isn't my first hydro or one with hydro lift. I will have to post a video to my you tube or on here to show what im talking about.

Yep, that's why I asked about the condition of the fluid and filter. No need to change it if it has been done fairly recently. My experience with screamers is that the noise tends to stop when they are in forward or reverse thus indicating a linkage adjustment as Roland also mentioned. Lot's of times if you put them up on jack stands the wheels will be turning even when they are in neutral so the linkage can be off just a little and you may not notice it other than noise. I have a 149 doing the same thing. Step on the brake to start it and it wants to take off as soon as it starts. One of these days I'll get off my lazy butt and fix it.

Only other thing I can think of is a relief valve in the pump.

That's because its the logical first step, hydraulic systems don't like clogged filters and dirty fluid. Also its often overlooked during maintenance or there like my grandfather and don't believe in maintenance. The reason I question when exactly the fluid was change and what filter/fluid was used is there's plenty of uninformed people out there that use an oil filter and automatic trans fluid instead of the proper hydraulic filter/fluid which will cause an issue. Since were trying to help him solve his issue over the internet we need as much info as possible since we can't be there in person. If a simple fluid/filter change doesn't help the issue then its time to move on to more time consuming and much more expensive repairs.
