Cub cadet Hds 2185 transaxle
 

I'm a newbie here. Recently picked up a well used cub cadet hds 2185 and thought it a good idea to change the transaxle fluid and filter. After reading many posts I came to understand it is okay to run Rotella T 15w -40. I also installed a purolator pure one pl14670 filter which I cross referenced to be an alternative to the cub cadet filter 923-3014. Upon starting the tractor, it did not want to move in forward or reverse but let out an audible whine when trying to. The transaxle took about 6.5 quarts to reach the full level on the dipstick.
I am beginning to suspect the filter is not compatible so I plan on ordering the factory 923-3014 part, but I am really hoping I didn't do any damage to my transaxle.
Any thoughts from any seasoned veterans out there?

Just my 2 cents but I only use the OEM Cub filter, NAPA 1410 or Wix 51410. (Wix makes NAPA filters just remove the 5) as far as the oil I have heard people using Rotella in the older style Cubs but the HDS uses something else. First thing I would do is change the filter and if it won't move you may have a problem.

Iknow this is old, but if the crossed filter has a anti- drainback valve you can airlock it.

Well I don't care if the thread is 4 years old. I learned something. I've always heard, like Sam said, to use quality filters. Now I know why. Thank you for your post.
