149 trans service
I want to service the fluid in the trans of my 149. I also want take the rear cover off to check for moisture and junk build up. My questions are 1 I don't see a drain so the cover has to come off any way correct? And 2. Has anybody had luck reusing the gasket? They seem pretty expensive for a gasket to me. How about RTV or silicone gasket maker? Any thought or opinions are welcome. Thanks, Mark

The rear cover does have to come off for the fluid to be drained. Take out the lower bolts first in an attempt to deflect the fluid down instead of all over the place.
Do not reuse the gasket. Get a new one. You'll be happier that way. |

Ok, thanks guys. I ordered a new gasket. 14.00 plus 9.00 shipping. I have tried gasket paper before and haven't had much luck. Already enough leaks now!! Guess I just needed a push to do the right thing. thanks for the input. Mark

Mark, there is a drain plug underneath. If you can't find it, I can post a pic if you want.

I've never seen a drain plug on the rear of a cadet.
