2-spring pto on 127
 
I've recent started to restore a 127 that I purchased 2 years ago. The PO buggered up a bunch of stuff including the pto. It appears that the pto was a homemade hybrid. The pulley appears to be the 2-spring type with the 3 notches around the edge, but the spring was the smaller type that has the ends bent over. My question is this: if I rebuild this with the two springs the way it was designed, will this work on my 127 or will it be too much for the rock shaft? Would it be better/possible to leave one of the springs off?

It sounds like you have the pulley set up of a Wide Frame PTO instead of a Narrow Frame PTO. The springs sound like they are the correct NF version. A picture sure would help a whole lot to verify exactly what you have. At the very least if you rebuild it, use the correct springs and it will work fine for you. The double spring is pretty much standard on 12hp engines and up for the WF's.

I realize the different styles of ptos. My question is whether or not the double spring wide frame pto will work with the rock shaft on my 127 or should I just install one spring. The reason I ask is because I ordered the rebuild kit for the wide frame style before realizing my dilemma.

As long as your pto looks like the one pictured above you should be fine.By the way you rockshaft has nothing to do with the pto.

I think I have the same question: Maybe its been discussed. Will the WF two spring setup work in the NF pulley? Adjustments may be an issue but wondering if anyone has tried this and what the results were. Thanks

It will work just fine on your "crankshaft". :beerchug:

As long as you use the correct spring/s for the PTO you should be alright.

For the rockshaft issue... The added pressure from the Wide Frame double spring PTO on a Narrow Frame rockshaft should not be any kind of issue, the rockshafts are pretty strong and I don't think one WF spring is quite as strong as one NF spring, so I don't believe you are actually doubling the pressure against the rockshaft.

I don't think I would use Wide Frame springs in a Narrow Frame PTO.

The NF PTO doesn't have the little "nubs" to keep the spring from turning in the casting.
