Can't find thread - Kohler M18s that can Swap with KT17s?

Somewhere I had read a thread that included the necessary information about what Kohler Magnum 18s were direct swaps for the KT17 Series 1's. However, I can't seem to find it and I forgot to bookmark it. I have a 682 with a KT17 series 1 that is running for now, but I just found a gouged cylinder while giving her a thorough once-over (just purchased tractor a few weeks ago). It actually runs very well, so my plan is to just keep checking the oil...and run her till she pops. I have a hilly lot, so we'll see if the myth is true. I'm also consider ing the Vanguard 18 for a repower, but if I can find a magnum 18 in good shape for a bargain price I might go that route.

Does anyone have this information relating to the Magnum 18's?

I just came across an m18 from Craftsman GT6000, 80's early 90's. Let em know what you find. I'm looking for info as well.

All I have found so far is spec number 24506 should be a direct swap, minus wiring changes. Should be looking for a 1 1/8 output shaft for the PTO...

YUP.....If you have that Cub Cadet Spec'd M-18, it will be a direct fit. There will be a minor wiring modification for the Ignition System.

M18 replacement for KT17

Hi, can you tell me or show me where the wiring changes are for a KT17 to M18 replacement? I'm doing this in a 782 and trying to figure out the best way to do this. Thank you

Roland will provide you with a schematic but in a nutshell you will just need to change the way you stop the motor by grounding the magneto, presently you remove power to the coil, very simple change the rest is a bolt in on a M18.:beerchug:
