682 pickup

Picked up this nice 682 tonight. Really straight tractor, no rust, dents, or modifications. It does have a small hole in the right side of the block from where it threw a rod, but it still runs. I believe it has a series I in it. Came with good side shields and a nice 44c.

If there's an open hole in the crankcase, you need to do something about it. That engine will not last long with a direct path for dirt to get into the engine internals. Is the thrown rod still in it, too?

Nice find on the 682!

Well I wasn't planning on mowing the yard with it like this. It runs on one cylinder. The guy I bought it off of said it would start so I fired it up to verify that everything worked before I got to excited about it. I got what should be a good rebuildable series II engine that I may put the money into. Just have to see how things look inside.

Good deal
Now get some duct tape and cover up that hole the Red Green way....

I was somewhat surprised to find that it has the IH rearend. Since the front axle is also red, I guess this one must have got shipped to mtd in pieces and they put it together. It has a cub cadet serial tag.

Congrats on the 682, here is a link to what I went through with my KT17 II.

Good luck on the rebuild.

Congrats! Nice find!
What's the serial number? Close to the 700,000 range? Might explain the red axle and red rearend unless a PO switched 'em out.
