Broken #2 Tiller
Has anyone taken a #2 tiller drive system apart? I was tilling today and the tines locked up. Everything else turns all the way up to the large drive pulley on the tiller itself. Im thinking a shear pin or key let loose internally. Suggestions?

does the input shaft turn free? you could have sheared the key in the keyway. thats the only one on the tiller. if it spins and the tines dont, you broke a chain inside it.
prob this chain if the input spins but the tines dont http://onlycubcadets.net/forum/pictu...pictureid=2777 |

Thanks for all of the replies! After a bit of research and reading. I believe I do have a broken drive chain. Now if I can only find parts......
Here is a couple of photos of my before and after set ups. I'll update as I get into the repair with photos. |
That's a awesome thank you! Love the before and after pics!

Ok thanks for the updates... I really want to know how much greese is in your case of the tiller. I have a 2a on the 682 and am thinking about trying to get some greese into it some how, cause my #1 had dryed up black gunk in it.

You did an awesome job on your tiller!

Its been a while since I posted about my broken tiller. Since then I've replaced a sticky exhaust valve in my 149 (now it runs like new)! And I have been planning my tiller repair stategy. This thing was very tough to get apart! I guess If I was as old as it is and always in the dirt then I would be diffucult as well!
I must say that without PB Blaster, a torch, a BFH and lots of patients, I would have not been able to accomplish this disassembly!. Now that its apart, I'm repacking all the bearings, replacing the #60 chain that broke and making all new gaskets from scratch. The structural parts are in the de-ruster and will get repainted when they are done cooking. In the meantime... I'll post more photos of the rebuild and progress as it happens. |
Looking good!:beerchug: keep us updated!
