1450 Trunion Fix

3 Attachment(s)
This must be the month for the trunion repair. I removed the seat and fenders and am at this point of the repair. When welding up the corners is the wet rag the best option or should a heat sink be used as well? Also any other pointers would be a great help.

Steve, now that you have it off you can weld it up or if you've put it back on the wet rag will work.

Duke, it looks like it's still on the tractor:bigthink:
Do the wet rag thing around the bottom to help with over heating.

Exactly and do small welds, then some filing, then some welds. That will help keep down the heat. That looks just about the same as my 1250 was when I fixed it.

wet rag works good. i live in north wisconsin and used packed snow around it. worked great. it doesnt take much to fill them in. i hope you got new springs for it too. its a must in my opinion. good luck

Here is some more info if you don't already have it:

McMaster Carr carries the shims. I used .005
http://www.mcmaster.com/#standard-shims/=gepzon
5/8" ID for the damper plate assembly shims
1/2" ID shim for the Cam assembly control plate

Yes, it's still on the tractor. I'll take care not to over heat with a wet rag and even use the snow that "cmatthew" recommended.

Got it DWayne, small welds, file, then small welds, file some more. If it looks good when I'm done I'll post a picture.

Thanks for the extra information DWayne. Maybe use a feeler gauge to measure the existing gap to determine the size of shim needed?
