Working out the bugs on my 149

I got the starter problems taken car of. It wound up being a bad battery. Now time to put friction washers on the hydrastatic linkage. It just wants to flop around and makes for some interesting speed control while trying to hold the lever steady. I also has a leaking front tire. I put anti freeze in the tire and put the air to it and it's good as new. If it ever stops raining I will get some pictures. I have been told you guys like pictures.

Welcome and congrats on your 149. You talk about changes in speed, it may need attention in the trunnion area, the springs get weak, the slot they ride in gets worn spots, and the cams themselves get worn and sloppy. Any and all these conditions could result in undesired changes in speed, I am guessing the sloppy control handle is just the tip of the iceberg, but don't get
discourage, all the problem areas I mentioned are repairable. Do some looking around, search the site, ask questions, that is what this place is all about, helping one another keeping the cubs up and running/ working strong.

I have a 149 that I am almost done rebuilding from the ground up, the thread is entitled, "Cub 149 Resto-mod",'you will find it right here in this section, you mind find some items, repairs, and upgrades listed in it that could be useful. I had to perform the repairs mentioned on my trunion as well, they are listed there.

Good luck, you'll love your new workhorse!

Oh by the way, I never heard of using antifreeze as a remedy for a leaky tire....interesting!

I found that the friction disc were shot. Seems like a real easy fix. I wish it would stop raining so I could play

When I was a kid I tried water and it works to. That was before green slime. I have also used used motor oil. It sometimes even works for dry cracks. I think the fluid washes small debris into the holes. And being fluid it leaks slower until the debris can find it or maybe the air leaks just blow it through? I dont know for sure, all I know is sometimes its a cheap fix!

BinderRod, Is it still raining? lol I want to see it!:D :beerchug:
