my rear end let go!!
i was cutting some grass today and my tractor was doing great. i was in some rough stuff so i was in first gear. all of a sudden, it stopped. i thought i was hung up on a root, so i put it in reverse and it went back no problem. put it back in first, it went a little piece forward then started a sickening grinding sound. thats my first guess. i shut her off and then proceeded to go through the gears, no problems there, so i'm thinking rearend is toast. how readily available are parts? and how much of a PITA is gonna be to repair? that god for spairs!!!!!!! jeff

probably just better off getting a different rear end from a guy that parts tractors
|
Watch out when Lewis's rear end lets go!!! It's not pleasant.
Yes, replacing the rear would be easier. |
Check the spirol pins maybe one of them broke. Might be shifter forks too. There's a guide in the tech section of the site.

Pull the fenders and shifter...it may be immediately obvious. There's always rearend gears on ebay, but a whole 'nother rear will be faster.

Mike,
Your not a very fart smeller are you?:LMAO1: It would be a lot easier to find a complete rear, plug and play is the way... |
Thanks guys! I will access the damage when the temp drops some. Until then, I will just put the deck on the spare cub. Thanks jeff

about complete 3speeds...
Pm sent....

Just another option - was in the junkyard the other day and found two old gear drive cubs, complete rear ends there for sure, maybe a few other things too, but definitely trans and rear ends, complete assemblies.
I'm in Ohio, btw. |
