Default my rear end let go!!
i was cutting some grass today and my tractor was doing great. i was in some rough stuff so i was in first gear. all of a sudden, it stopped. i thought i was hung up on a root, so i put it in reverse and it went back no problem. put it back in first, it went a little piece forward then started a sickening grinding sound. thats my first guess. i shut her off and then proceeded to go through the gears, no problems there, so i'm thinking rearend is toast. how readily available are parts? and how much of a PITA is gonna be to repair? that god for spairs!!!!!!! jeff

Watch out when Lewis's rear end lets go!!! It's not pleasant.

Yes, replacing the rear would be easier.

Check the spirol pins maybe one of them broke. Might be shifter forks too. There's a guide in the tech section of the site.

Pull the fenders and shifter...it may be immediately obvious. There's always rearend gears on ebay, but a whole 'nother rear will be faster.

It would be a lot easier to find a complete rear,plug and play is the way...

Just another option - was in the junkyard the other day and found two old gear drive cubs, complete rear ends there for sure, maybe a few other things too, but definitely trans and rear ends, complete assemblies.

I'm in Ohio, btw.

unfortunately, around here cubs are far and few in between. i have bought or been given all that i have found. i'm gonna wait till the temp drops and then tear into it and see the damage. i'm not in a big hurry for it, i'm gonna drop the deck and put it back on the 1200, then i will have my wifes' 1450 and the 1200. if i had to cut with anything else, i would be sick. you just can't beat a cub cut!!!! jeff
