still have 1250 trouble

Well I had it running , but like I said it wasn't pretty. It would really start hard, turn over fast and catch every now and again. Once it starts the whole tractor would shake a bunch and smoke out the breather and muffler.
So today I rebuilt the carb. it wasn't in good condition at all. Cleaned the breather and replaced the old gaskets, and while I had it off checked the valves and adjusted. Checked the points, they were fine.
Went to start it, same thing.
Seems like it wants to start right up, but it won't. Crank it and crank it and it will like sputter, then nothing. Try again and it light up but runs rough again.
Any ideas? I'm thinking this one saw a rough life by the way it's going.

Try resetting the timing using this procedure: http://mgonitzke.net16.net/tools/static_timing.pdf

Do you have a timing light?

Nope, I'm sure I put them back in the same order, and the same as the other tractor sitting next to it I used as a refrence. Now you got me re-thinking myself:bigthink: I'll check when I get back home.

Well I'm man enough to admit I'm sometimes not the sharpest knife in the drawer. I had the power wire and points wire on backwards.
Put them the way their supposed to be, and it fired up:bigthink: Can anyone say dumb...?
Live and learn I guess. It smokes blue real bad, so I'm thinking theres a whole lot more wrong than just two wires on backwards. But I sure do appreciate all the help. Thanks

Donovan with the score!

Imagine how long it would've taken to figure that one out without having access to this forum. What a great resource.
